This article presents an ethnography on the genesis and development of Islam in Córdoba, Argentina. The analysis focuses on the socio-cultural structure and forms of social (re)production of the Muslim group nucleated in the Arab Muslim Society-Islamic Centre of Cordoba. This Sunni institution is located in the centre of the city and was founded in 1928 but its roots go back to the beginning of the 20th century. In order to account for the object, I have constructed different socio-historical moments that restitute the dynamics of the group and the institution and their interconnections with the history of Islam at a national and international level throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Such overview allows us to visualise the characteristics and transformations of its structure, and thus the ways in which the identities of those who animated and animate the social and cultural life of this group were configured. The data in the article are derived from my fieldwork carried out between 2016 and 2021.
