This article aims to reflect on how university libraries can act in scientific dissemination, proposing actions aimed at promoting the approximation of the community (users, potential and non-users, society in general) with science. The methodological approach used was based on the narrative literature review, being characterized as an exploratory study, by proposing ways for the dissemination of scientific knowledge to be effective in university libraries. The results show that it is necessary to expand initiatives, using, for example, institutional social networks as tools to foster interaction and engagement of society, awakening curiosity and interest in science. In addition, university authorities should develop policies to promote the continuous training of librarians so that they can act as science communicators, based on the three paradigms of scientific dissemination, namely: formative and reflective actions for staff; dissemination; and public participation. It can be concluded that the university library has an expressive potential to act together with its surroundings and the society around it, being able to act so that this society feels increasingly belonging to the spaces of science and technology and its results.
