Resumen

ESPINOZA, Oscar. Equidad en el Sistema de Educación Superior en Chile desde la Perspectiva de los Resultados. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2015, n.43, pp.46-64. ISSN 1995-7785.

The study has two purposes: first, discuss the scope of the concepts of equity and equality in order to avoid a frequent confusion in the literature and in everyday discourse of academics, politicians, government officials, and policy makers. In this context, the multidimensional model of equity and equality developed by Espinoza (2002, 2007, 2014), which considers equity from three dimensions (equity for equal needs, equity for equal abilities and equity for equal achievement) it is presented as well as resources and experience of learners (access, retention, performance and results). It is expected to contribute to this multidimensional analysis of the issue in order to generate a more comprehensive understanding of equity in the broader framework of social justice. The analysis stated in this article is limited only to equity in relation to the results (outcomes) of the educational process in the higher education field. The scarce evidence available supports the conclusion that there has been an increasing graduate rate from tertiary education over the last decade both in the technical and the university level, which would not have a correlation with the level of employability and wages. Indeed, it would be producing a significant imbalance between supply and demand of professionals that would be resulting in underemployment, low wages and breach of professional and job expectations.

Palabras clave : Equity; Higher education; Chile; Outcomes; Employability.
