This paper analyzes the discursive constructions used in the Argentine press during the 1978 World Cup with the aim of exploring the relationship between language and power. The study focuses on the periodicals Para Ti and Gente, considering them as active vehicles that influence the shaping of social spaces and the making of political and public interest decisions. As a framework of analysis, the work of Jacques Rancière is taken up again in relation to the symbolic power of communication as a strategic cultural product. Thus, starting from the study of the figure of women during the World Cup, individual and collective positions of subjectivation and identification are differentiated and the role of the media in the reproduction of hegemonic practices is investigated, identifying also political moments of rupture in the hierarchy of representation and knowledge in the distribution of the experience of the common.
