The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the media coverage of the fire that occurred in the Mar Chiquita Reserve (Buenos Aires Province) on 8 July, 2022. To achieve this objective, a mixed methodological strategy based on Critical Discourse Analysis and content analysis was employed to study a corpus of 67 news articles, along with a detailed analysis of 64 photographs accompanying these news articles. This methodology made it possible to identify both the overarching themes and the different actors involved in the issue, as well as to discover nuances and implicit connotations within the images accompanying the news. It is noteworthy that two general approaches predominated in the coverage of the fire. Firstly, an emphasis on attribution of responsibility, closely followed by a focus on conflict in the later stages of the coverage.
