2020 was a year marked by the search for technological tools capable of collaborating with educational institutions to meet their educational goals. In order to reflect on these challenges today, the article proposes to take a tour of the main trends that influenced the use of educational television in Latin America in the sixties and seventies. From the initial astonishment by the capabilities of the new technology, and the impulses given by modernization theories and international development agencies, the article will reach a moment of disenchantment, from the emergence of dependency theories, the failure of the most ambitious experiences and the introduction of new technologies. Finally, it is intended to propose how this process occurred in the Uruguayan case as a startingpoint for new works that seek to deepen the use of television by the differentpublic education organizations.
