In this paper, we address theoretical and methodological issues of historical research: document-monument, photographic object and mediation when analyzing the use of images in the Historia do Ensino Industrial no Brasil by Celso Suckow da Fonseca, from the historical method analysis in the sense of Rüsen (2015). It is constituted as a source the work História do Ensino Industrial no Brasil, being the first volume published in 1961 and composed by 15 chapters and the second volume, published in 1962, composed by 23 chapters, totalizing 38 chapters and the bibliography. The images in the workpresent distinct types that vary between engravings, drawings, photographs, graphs and organograms, among others. In volume 1 of the work, most of the images used are drawings and in volume 2, photographs predominate. From the mapping, categorization and analysis of the images, we emphasize that their uses illustrate ideas and themes addressed in the work.
