Resumen

LEBIGOT, Claude. Breviora: towards an aesthetic of the brief. CELEHIS [online]. 2015, n.29, pp.101-120. ISSN 2313-9463.

Although the short form in literature may be looked upon as a token of modernity, short form literature has an old tradition which dates back to Latin epigrams. Focusing our attention on specific examples in the Spanish language we shall seek to highlight the basic mechanisms of 19th- and 20th-century short form literature which emerge through the permanence of the epigram tradition, the invention of greguería, the adaptation of the haiku in Spain and, last of all, the fragmented writing of writers' diaries. The present survey of the various genres embracing the short form reveals specific features of the rhetorical, enunciative and fragmented economy of those texts composed of 'archipelagoed words'. Ultimately an aesthetic of the short form is always built on the paradox of a feeting enunciation which can impart depth to sensory perception.

Palabras clave : brevity; epigram; fragment; greguería; haiku.
