Resumen

CELIAVAZQUEZ, María. Identity Politics and Subjectivities in the Problematic Mode: Theoretical Uses and Critical Reviews of Argentinian Readings. CELEHIS [online]. 2020, n.39, pp.51-60. ISSN 2313-9463.

When does the problematic (according to Deleuze) occur in the theoretical reflection? Are there theories which are more likely than others to promote the problematic as a mode of thought regardless of their postulates, arguments, hypotheses or concepts? Or is it that the irruption of the problematic depends on the critic’s modes of use of the theories? I am interested in these matters because they are inherent to the teaching of literary theory. They send us to the slippery slope of the object taught (what do we teach when we teach theory?). Above all, they suggest that the resolution of these dilemmas is not concerned with the delimitation of the field of study but with the theory’s resistance. First, I examine identity politics and the ways to build subjectivities in Juan José Sebreli’s essays, texts which are examples of the predominant ideological criticism in the 60´s in Argentina. Then, I explore how the problematic occurs within the context of my studies on Victoria Ocampo’s cosmopolitan subjectivity. More specifically, I examine how the contemporary thought of the mestizo, the interstitial, and the neutral allows me to analyse the writer’s cosmopolitanism beyond the binary oppositional paradigm (nationalism-cosmopolitanism).

Palabras clave : ideological criticism; Juan José Sebreli; Victoria Ocampo; subjectivities; identities.
