BRAVO ACEVEDO, Guillermo. Security, migration, trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling in Chile: 2010-2018. Rev. hist. am. argent. [online]. 2021, vol.56, n.2, pp.209-231. Epub 30-Dic-2021. ISSN 2314-1549. http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.44.017.
Since man inhabits the earth there have been population movements. In the twenty-first century, such movements are part of globalization and the world economy. In this way, international and regional migrations have caused changes in the migration policies of many countries, but, at the same time, they have opened spaces for transnational organized crime to develop profitable illicit businesses, which are related to the smuggling of migrants and human trafficking. Chile does not escape this situation since economic growth has made the country an attractive receiving society for regular cross-border and regional migrants and, also, for organized crime to develop its business of human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
