Cyberattacks and cybercrime (attacks with economic motivation or against national interests) are an actual daily reality in Spain and in entire the world. They may even be a part of cyberterrorism, which is the union of terrorism and cyberspace (or technology) to instill fear in people with an ideological goal. First, we will analyze the cyberterrorist threat and, second, we will ponder on whether the States have preventive capabilities (prospective and defense), by analyzing Spain’s capabilities as a member of the International Community, and whether they would be prepared fight against this phenomenon. We have verified the different capabilities existing in Spain and we have presented their degree of coordination and collaboration. Finally, conclusions and future implications will be discussed. The prospective method is used and we discuss possible scenarios in cyberterrorism.
