Resumen

TERUEL GALLETTI, José Ignacio. Los derechos humanos en Arabia Saudita: un estudio de la posición argentina en el marco del Consejo de Derechos Humanos. Relac. int. [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.64, pp.95-113. ISSN 2314-2766.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e165.

In 2022 Argentina presided over the UN Human Rights Council and it had the possibility to bring to the international community’ attention problems that were ignored, including the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia, where Mohammed bin Salman has served as Crown Prince for five years. His self-proclaimed "reformist" ideology in a country ruled by an absolutist monarchy frequently violating human rights on account of a Wahhabi religious-conservative doctrine was fundamental to his rise to power. However, repression has reached unprecedented levels since his appointment. In fact, Saudis report such violation as extrajudicial arrests, crucifixions, beheadings, and persecution of all kinds of opponents and their families daily.

Palabras clave : Saudi Arabia; human rights; authoritarianism; United Nations; Argentina.
