Resumen

JOLY, Verónica. To dress democracy: University, design and cultural change towards 1988. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2013, vol.43, n.2, pp.201-212. ISSN 2362-2024.

Clothes and Fabric Design´s (DIYT) career was born at the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of Buenos Aires University (FADU-UBA) at the end of de ´80s decade. Our purpose is to approach this field´s emergency phenomenon from a cultural studies´ perspective, mainly Pierre Bourdieu´s theory of fields and Raymond Williams ´cultural analysis. This work inquires into the main people involved speeches, which were tied up with the beginning of DIYT: some experts were called to the FADU to create the career, university authorities who determined the design at the UBA, artists and designers from the ´80s related with the first course of Clothes Design and spreading agents of the phenomenon at that time. We ask ourselves. Which imaginary about outfit does the ´80s cultural field offer? How does it redefine on the verge of DIYT?.

Palabras clave : Fashion design; Cultural change; Disciplinary field; Institutions.
