Resumen

FERNANDEZ, Daniela Natalia  y  GUTIERREZ, Juan José. Historicism or institutionalism: The semantic evolution of gothic style in Buenos Aires, 1812-1929 . An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2016, vol.46, n.2, pp.187-198. ISSN 2362-2024.

The following paper intends to rethink the evocative relationship of historicism through the particular case of Gothic architecture in Buenos Aires. A well-developed tour of certain population flows, migrants, and travelers, as determinants of different processes of semantization that characterize the appropriation of style as a movement among different institutions in space rather than time. Two great moments will be constructed: protestant immigration processes that reproduce the mechanism of linear allegory between Gothic form and the Protestant church; and a second moment characterized by a cultural exchange and a strong position of the Catholic church in the country which allow the rethinking of the relationship between form and meaning, and then into the secular repertoire as conservative demonstration against University Reform.

Palabras clave : gothic; institutionality; immigration; religion.
