ThisdossierpresentsthefirstSpanishtranslationof Hans-Georg Gadamer’sSchönheit Beauty (workwritten in the 1970s and posthumouslypublished in German in 2007) and Odo Marquard’sSchönheitundBürgerlichkeit Beauty and Bourgeoisie, publishedalso in 2007 as a delayed response toGadamer’sviews. Gadamer explores thehistoricaldevelopmentofthe concept ofbeauty in the 19th and 20th centuries, emphasizingthatbeautycontinued and will continue to be notonlyanaesthetic concept butalso a normative concept. Forhispart, MarquardcontextualizesGadamer’s ideas in their original productionframework and performs a criticalanalysisofthembasedonhisownearlycontributionsto a theoryofthe “no longerbeautifularts”.
