MCCOLD, Paul. The recent history of restorative justice: Mediation, circles and conferencing. Delito soc. [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.36, pp.9-44. ISSN 0328-0101.
Restorative justice, as a distinct approach, began in Canada in 1974. This article reviews the history of restorative justice through 2004. The review traces the evolution of three specific models of restorative justice practice. Restorative mediation includes community mediation, victim offender reconciliation programs, and victim-offender mediation. Restorative circles include Navajo peacemaking circles, healing circles, and sentencing circles. Conferencing models include restorative conferencing, family group conferences, and family group decision making. The review is augmented by an extended time-line of important historical events.
