VAN DE BUNT, Henk. Walls of secrecy and silence: The Madoff case and cartels in the construction industry. Delito soc. [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.38, pp.9-30. ISSN 0328-0101.
The aim of this paper is to analyze how large frauds remain hidden from the control and surveillance of regulatory agencies, victims and witnesses. Taking in account the analysis of two specific cases, such as the fraud carried out by Bernie Madoff and the the bids in the Dutch construction industry, van de Bunt seeks to investigate the elements of silence and secrecy as key components in the success of these scams. That being that they create strong bonds that play a crucial function in creating concealment and ignorance.
