Resumen

BRUSCHI, Rita; CUTINELLA, César  y  PESCE, Fernando. The Origins of the Geographical Community in Uruguay. The Asociación de Geógrafos del Uruguay and the Revista Uruguaya de Geografía (1950-1957). Bol. estud. geogr. [online]. 2023, n.120, pp.43-68.  Epub 27-Feb-2024. ISSN 2525-1813.  http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.40.031.

This work is part of the field of the historiographic approach to Geography in Uruguay. It aims to contribute to the knowledge of the historical and institutional context from which the Association of Geographers of Uruguay (AGU) emerged, the causes that motivated the grouping and formation of that academic community, investigate who were the intervening actors, what were the motivations for which were grouped together and reveal the epistemological reasons that sustained and consolidated it.

He sought to investigate the origins of the AGU, revealing the historical causes that motivated its creation, the foundations that sustained it as an academic community and the formalized instruments of internal and external legitimation. Qualitative methodological strategies are used: critical discourse analysis and historical reconstruction method, taking the Uruguayan Journal of Geography as the collection unit.

Palabras clave : Association of Geographers of Uruguay; Uruguayan Journal of Geography; scientific journals; scientific community; Jorge Chebataroff.
