BLANCO, Ana C. et al. Sepsis por Campylobacter coli en un huésped inmunocompetente. Arch. argent. pediatr. [online]. 2007, vol.105, n.3, pp.247-250. ISSN 0325-0075.

Campylobacter coli is one of the most frequent etiologies of gastrointestinal disease. Sepsis and infections appearing out of the gastrointestinal tract are rare, specially in immunocompetent patients or without chronic condition. Clinical case. An 11 months old boy was transferred to a pediatric intensive care unit for sepsis. He had been admitted to another institution due to breathing difficulty and fever. He developed symptoms of low respiratory obstruction, tachypnea, tachycardia and fever. He was treated with bronchodilators and corticosteroids, and because of the worsening of the clinical state, the derivation was requested. Intravenous antibiotics were given at admission. He required mechanical respiratory assistance. Neutropenia was verified (white blood cells 2,900, neutrophils 487). Blood cultures grew Campylobacter coli. The outcome was good. The patient stayed in the intensive care unit for 5 days and then was referred to the reference hospital, which he left on the 14 day after admission.
