Resumen

GUARDIA, Nicolás Maximiliano  y  CHIAVAZZA, Horacio. THE ROLE OF AVIFAUNA IN HISTORICAL CONTEXTS OF MENDOZA. ZOOARCHEOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CASA DE SAN MARTÍN SITE (CSM) (MENDOZA, ARGENTINA). Comechingonia [online]. 2023, vol.27, n.1, pp.41-50. ISSN 1851-0027.

Archaeological birds in historical urban contexts have been scarcely studied in northern Mendoza. The aim of this work is to present the results of the analysis carried out in the remains of Aves taxa recovered in a historical domestic site with extensive and discontinuous chronology. The archaeological site Casa de San Martín (CSM) has a great potential to develop out this kind of work, because the bird elements and specimens recovered indicate that these are the third taxa most represented. We carried out general analyzes on the zooarchaeological sample and particular analyzes on the Aves taxa in historical contexts. The evidence shows different types of consumption. The comprehensive approach to these remains, in relation to the other zooarchaeological remains and the context, lead us to propose that the breeding and reproduction took place within the same domestic space and the consumption was food-cultural and symbolic.Historical sources allow us to contrast the information recovered from excavations with documents from that time. This information allows us to generate some approximations to know which species interacted with humans and how they did it.
