This essay attempts to offer some thoughts on the performance and the limits of the anthropological approach for intellectual history. It has been inspired by the articles gathered in "Inquiry on Intellectual History" (Prismas, 11, 2007) and is based on the research the author did on Roger Bastide's (1898-1974) Brazilian works. Despite its clearly self-reflexive position, the article aims to make an inquiry of a more general nature into the field of intellectual history, which is considered a porous realm, open to the contributions coming from different domains of knowledge. Likewise, it wonders at the possibilities of widening the ethnographical perspective and, as a consequence, of widening the focus of problems and subjects of anthropology as a discipline.
