Resumen

ORNELAS, JOSÉ MANUEL REDONDO. Language as a Demiurgic Instrument. Proclus: Metaphysics of Language and Theurgy. Rev. latinoam. filos. [online]. 2021, vol.47, n.1, pp.51-60. ISSN 1852-7353.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36446/rlf2021225.

This article presents the basic principies of Proclus’ complex and extraordinary conception of a philosophy of language; a ho- listic understanding, given its vast implications (theological, metaphysical, ethical, epistemological, cosmological and psychological, as well as herme- neutical, aesthetical and literary). Proclus’ views are expressly critical with a reductionism to logical analysis, developing a metaphysics of language that aims to its ethical and soteriological use, a copy of the paradigmatic logos of the gods: language is a demiurgic, ritual instrument by which reality is created, primarily by the gods and secondarily by us. Proclus’ philosophy of language is concretely illustrated by his conception about hymns as well as by his own composition of hymns and its practical ritual use of them.

Palabras clave : neoplatonism; Proclus; theurgy; philosophy of language.
