CAICEDO ASPRILLA, Henry. Identification, characterization and typology of the knowledge-based global regions: an approximation from the coordination of development policies. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2017, vol.21. ISSN 1853-4392.
This paper aims to determine the existence of knowledge-based Global Regions (RGBC) as the territories where development forces and policies are coordinated with those of globalization and knowledge. To identify these regions, based on rankings that measure regional development, proxies were constructed for the policies of Globalization, Competitiveness in knowledge economy, Urbanization and Demographic transition, Wealth production, Institutional performance and Spatial Organization. The techniques of simple correspondence analysis and clusters were applied showing a correspondence between the categories and the classification between regions. Therefore it was verified the existence of the RGBC and a hierarchy between them; ranging from the polyfunctional leader alpha regions to the insufficient, lagging and non-functional. A relevant finding is that Latin regions are the worst positioned as RGBC.
