CORTIZO, Daniela; TARDUCCI, Rocío Rodríguez y FREDIANI, Julieta. Dispersed peripheries: urban expansion in La Plata city in a decade (period 2010-2020). Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2021, vol.30, pp.89-89. ISSN 1853-4392. http://dx.doi.org/10.37838/unicen/est.30-303.
The indefinite, discontinuous and low-density urban expansion, that a large number of Argentine cities present, forms scattered peripheries that tend to consume large amounts of land per inhabitant, implying a waste in economic, social and environmental terms. The city of La Plata, capital of the province of Buenos Aires, is not excluded from this growth dynamic. In this framework, the objective of this article is to analyze the expansive urban growth processes that La Plata peripheries had in the 2010-2020 period, based on interpretation of satellite images, and the identification of the fundamental aspects that contributed to these processes, in particular from action and inaction by the State, in order to generate knowledge to guide the future planning of the city.
