The objective of this study is to identify the perception of Physical Education teachers at the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology in the Rio Grande do Sul, Pelotas campus, about the way Artistic Gymnastics is taught in the institution. This case study was conducted through a closed questionnaire and semi-structured interview with six teachers who worked with this methodology in the first semester of 2020. Four categories emerged from the analysis: Artistic Gymnastics in regular physical education; Artistic Gymnastics in the extracurricular context; campus infrastructure and student demand; teachers and practice modalities offered. The teachers mention that Artistic Gymnastics is taught because of the influence of a retired teacher and due to the sporting characteristics of the institution. No extracurricular Artistic Gymnastics activities are offered due to the lack of specialized teachers, the lack of adequate space, and the low demand from students. In addition, the teachers who teach extracurricular activities are committed to these practices. In conclusion, it is inferred that the teaching of Artistic Gymnastics in the Institution stems from a legacy of generations and from the appreciation of the sport as content in regular classes.
