This text describes an experience in research and teaching at the Chair in Argentine Social History, at the Faculty of Humanities of Universidad Nacional de La Plata, mostly based on the archives of the Department of Intelligence of the Police of Buenos Aires (DIPBA). Among other topics, it discusses: the changes in tradicional perspectives on Social History due to recent history, the challenges which the historian faces when working on sources in the archives of the dictatorial repression, the options for their opening and the tasks which make for a more wide-spread access to the information they contain, as well as their function as a "space of memory".
