Resumen

NAPOLI, Juan Tobías. Espacios escénico, geográfico y metafórico en Helena de Eurípides. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2007, vol.14, pp.109-128. ISSN 0328-1205.

In first three verses of Helena , Euripides presents the two main argumentals new features about to the subject: the wife of Menelao appears before the eyes of the spectators in the unknown Egypt and the character is not the fatal woman of so many works, the dominant and arrogant princess proud of his beauty and of the predilection which she enjoys, but that she has become a humble suppliant, postroad before a tomb to request the protection of the Gods, since she wants to stay intact before the married reclamations of Teoclimeno, the new Egyptian king. Geography and stage scene will play a prevalent role in the poetic intentionality, and in this contrast of spaces and dark weather of metaphoric sense it will be finished drawing the sense of the tragedy: life and death, youth and oldness, truth and appearance, name and reality; but also the island of Pharos that is in front of Egypt, the islands in which were shipwrecked so many Greek heroes and the island located in front of Athens; also the mythical past of Helena and the cult future of Athens: everything is divided and contrasted harmonically in Helena.

Palabras clave : Euripides; Tragedy; Helena; Space; Island Metaphor.
