DONOSO JOHNSON, Paulo. El uso y abuso del término óchlos en Tucídides. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2020, vol.27, n.2, pp.81-81. ISSN 0328-1205. http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/1851779xe081.
In ancient Greek there are at least five terms that define the mass, the crowd and the multitude. One of them is ὄχλος, a concept born in the 5th Century B.C. which is used repeatedly by Thucydides as a biased synonym for δῆμος. From the analysis of some of the eighteen mentions of the term ὄχλος in his work, it is possible to reaffirm the powerful political effect of this concept in order to demonstrate, once again, the strong anti-democratic component in his work.
Palabras clave : ὄχλος; Democracy; Thucydides; Mass.
