Resumen

DE LA VILLA, Jesús. Personificación y abstracción en el imaginario griego. Estudio de algunos términos de Homero a la época clásica. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2022, vol.29, n.1, pp.117-117. ISSN 0328-1205.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/1851779xe117.

This paper studies the syntactic distribution of the Greek terms φόβος, δέος, αἰδώς and ἄλγος in Homer, Hesiod, the three tragedians, Aristophanes, Herodotus, Thucydides and Xenophon. The aim is to find differences in their usage that reflect an evolution of meaning from a more animistic and personalized conceptualization to a conceptualization as simple abstracts. Above all, the verbal contexts in which they appear are analysed and, more particularly, when the terms are used as the Subject of the clause. The conclusion is that such concepts are more frequently linked to verbs of agentive character -those which admit a personalized interpretation- in the most archaic or poetic texts, while this type of usage is largely foreign to historiography and Aristophanes.
