SARAGURO RAMIREZ, Byron Leonel; JARAMILLO, Byron; ZUNA, Efrain y GARCIA, Artemio. Tracheal cystic adenoid carcinoma: Case report presentation and literature review. Rev. am. med. respir. [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.3, pp.173-182. ISSN 1852-236X. http://dx.doi.org/10.56538/ramr.fztx8178.
Introduction:
Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the airway is a strange tumor that arises from the submucosal glands of the tracheobronchial tree. For the usual delay between symptoms and diagnosis, and for the propensity of this tumor to expand through the perineural fibers and submucosa, the recommended treatment is surgical resection with postoperative radiation therapy. Survival is determined by the presence of distance metastases.
Clinical case:
70 year-old female patient with a history of hypertension, COPD (former smoker 34 pack/year) who came to the emergency room with episodes of hemoptysis and previous dyspnea mMRC 3-4.
Discussion:
Malignant neoplasms of the trachea are very strange and data related to them is limited. The most important prognostic factors in primary malignant diseases of the trachea are early diagnosis, tumor stating, histology, and treatment options.
Conclusions:
Early detection may be associated with increased resectability rates and even prolonged survival.
