In northernmost coastal areas of Antarctic Peninsula, intercalations of ice and fresh, brackish and saline water can be present in permafrost in variable proportions. This particular area of coastal permafrost is called criopeg and shows natural resistive contrast which is useful for the study of hydrogeological and geocryological processes using 1D and 2D geoelectric methods. These processes can be interpreted in conjunction with certain coastal dynamic analysis. The study area is the Lopez de Bertodano Bay, located on northeast Marambio Island, between the mouth of the DÍaz creek and Cape Bodman. There, main coastal process is tide with a two meters of media tidal range. Sediment composition of tidal flat is predominantly clay silt whose main origin is associated with island outcrops erosion. Geoelectric survey results indicate superficial resistive levels related to the active layer with values ranging from 45- 75 ohm.m in supratidal areas to 8- 15 ohm.m in intertidal areas. The last ones are very discontinuous at depth, at least in the first 30 meters. In surface they match up with intertidal areas. Higher resistive values are found deeper. One possible interpretation is the effect of saline water infiltration and subsequent mixture with permafrost ice following geological discontinuities such as the Arroyo Díaz.
