FORASTIERO, Ricardo Raúl  e  MARTINUZZO, Marta Elba. Effect of antiphospholipid antibodies on activated factor X inhibition: Potential physiopathologic mechanism of the antiphospholipid syndrome. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2006, vol.40, n.3, pp.307-315. ISSN 0325-2957.

The antiphospholipid syndrome is an autoimmune disease defined by the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in patients with venous and/or arterial thrombosis, and/or obstetric morbidity. There are two groups of aPL-related pathogenic mechanisms: 1) inhibitory effects on the physiologic antithrombotic systems and 2) induction of cellular activation. In the present update the findings on the aPL interference on the activated factor X inhibition are presented. In particular, the aPL effects on the tissue factor pathway inhibitor, and the protein Z/ protein Z dependent protease inhibitor system.

Palavras-chave : antiphospholipid antibodies; antiphospholipid syndrome; protein Z; protein Z dependent protease inhibitor; tissue factor pathway inhibitor.
