In education, there has been a shift towards a student-centered process, implying challenges for teacher training; among others, to train reflective professionals. In this discussion we address this issue, explaining what we understand as reflection, what skills it entails and what is the role of language. Based on the socio-constructive paradigm, which emphasizes contextual and interactional factors, we discuss a proposal towards professional practice, where academic training and professional practice are confronted, considering the approaches and models that conceptualize knowledge as a continuum between theory and practice, through the explanation of cognitive processes. Consequently, we propose the need for a device built in situ that operationalizes certain skills, facilitating the reflective pedagogical practice of the different actors in the training process.
