SCHLITTLER, Ernesto; FILIPPIN, Franciso Angel  e  DIAZ, Eliseo Narciso. Electrochemical Study of the Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) on Ti electrodes modified with Pd in dilute acid solution. Tecnol. cienc. [online]. 2022, n.44, pp.65-78.  Epub 01-Jul-2022. ISSN 1666-6933.  http://dx.doi.org/10.33414/rtyc.44.65-78.2022.

The electrocatalytic reduction of oxygen is of paramount importance in the operation of a PEM-type fuel cell. The search for materials that replace platinum is currently under study. Titanium (Ti) is considered a valve metal due to its semiconductor characteristics, that is, it does not allow the passage of current in both directions due to the spontaneously formed oxide (TiO2). If this layer forms potentiodynamically, it increases the semiconductor characteristics and is a useful compound in electrocatalysis. Palladium (Pd) has electrochemical characteristics similar to platinum (Pt) but its cost is lower. The objective of this research is to determine how Pd electrodeposits influence the RRO, at different times, on TiO2 electrodes. Under the experimental conditions studied, the system remained stable, a tendency to improve the kinetics of the RRO was observed in the Ti electrodes with Pd electrodeposits. As the electrodeposition time increased, the potential at which the RRO starts also increased.
