LEDESMA, Rossana E.. Contexto de producción de pinturas rupestres en el divisadero (departamento de Cafayate, provincia de Salta, Argentina). Andes [online]. 2005, n.16, pp.305-324. ISSN 1668-8090.
One of the difficulties of using rock art as archeological vestige is the association between occupations and pictorial records on walls. This paper intends to tackle two aspects of El Divisadero: both to define context-times and to identify the elements that permit their correlation with the paintings. Wall paintings production context is used as an analysis unit, while art design patterns and production vestiges are used as archeological indicators. For the first aspect, analysis were carried out to determine canons, patterns, and subjects at intra-site level. Observations allow to propose four canons, eight patterns and three subjects. For the second aspect, excavations were conducted at the Cueva de los Camélidos and X-ray diffraction analysis of mineral vestiges was performed. Three contexts-time not linked with everyday activities were defined. Regarding the pictorial production context, the following aspects were estimated: the usage of local materials as gypsum and quartz, the use of hemihydrated gypsum in the coloring mixture, the motives placed in a place selected with limited visibility and access, and the surface treatment. Elements to consider that the first occupation of the Cueva de los Camélidos correspond with the time of the wall paintings arise from the data obtained on the occupations and the production sequence. Due to the highly deteriorated state of the site (looted and repainted with lime) elements to define maintenance and reclycling are absent.
