GUZMAN, F. African People in Argentina. An unprepared reflection. Andes [online]. 2006, n.17, pp.197-238. ISSN 1668-8090.
The purpose of this article is to set a general framework of relations as regards some topics and problems referred to the black and Afro half-caste population. My aim is to examine the regional and/or local diversity, in order to reflect upon the "invisibility" of the black contribution to the Argentine population. More specifically, this paper tries to throw light on the process of mestization and its deep influence on the configuration of collective identities. To what extent did the half-caste population affect the adaptation processes and the internal reproduction of the African? In that case, up to what point did the regional differences mean the formation of different cultural patterns? In short, by offering an embracing view to give a new meaning to these sectors, our purpose is also to analyze the complex process of the "vanishing" of the black community from the Argentine society.
