PAZ, Carlos D. Conflicts and Social Networks in the Legitimation Process of the Indigenous Power in the Chaco- Santa Fe Frontier. Second Half of the XVIIIth Century. Andes [online]. 2007, n.18, pp.251-274. ISSN 1668-8090.
As regards the process of construction of power, prestige and wealth -in some case studies- the role of the distribution of prestige goods as well as the granting of some privileges have been emphasized. These privileges allow those receiving them to identify themselves as a particular sector of society. An aspect little dealt with by historiography is the internal conflicts because of disagreements as regards projects or forms of relation with other parts of society or with other societies with which contact is established. The objective of this paper is to examine the problem of how the figure of "disloyalty" -among the Abipones by the Paraná River by the end of XVIIIth century- appears in a specific moment in the life of this community, as a way to strengthen the exclusion practice of those who oppose or are reticent to the central policies of the group, and as another way to centralize leaderships.
