KUFFER, Claudio. Biodemographic contributions on populations and families in Córdoba province (Argentina). Andes [online]. 2019, vol.30, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.
Biodemography is an academic field that combines components belonging to both Population Genetics and Demography, allowing more comprehensive approaches to a population under study. Varied biodemographic studies were carried out for Córdoba, on a spatial scale ranging from the whole Province to Córdoba City and other regions, and a time scope ranging from the late colonial period to the beginning of the current century. The main aim of this work was to expose the state of art for the region and time already mentioned. The variety of historical periods analysed and sometimes different approaches adopted, although always within the field of Biodemography, made it difficult to draw a conclusion. As outstanding points, it should be noted that the results reflected an increasing isolation of the provincial northwest along with a greater opening of the centre and southeast, coincident with the displacement of the productive pole from the centre-northwest to the centre-southeast. On the other hand, populations of the late XX century showed a marked heterogeneity in indicators of mate preferences and reproduction, example of which was the contrast of fertility between urban areas, with demographic transition already overcome, and rural ones, in transition.
