HOCSMAN, Salomón et al. Lithic analysis of an open air site in the high valleys of Northwestern Argentina: campo blanco (Tucuman). Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2003, n.20, pp.325-350. ISSN 1668-8104.
In this paper some general items about lithic technology and typology of Campo Blanco site, placed in the Quebrada de Amaicha, Tucumán province, are discussed. Campo Blanco is an open air site where lithic procurement and workshop activities have been done, leaving behind a high density of surface artifacts as its result. It was carry out a technological analysis to asses the steps of the work-chain that are represented. The aim of this analysis was to produce information about alittle known aspect of this kind of sites in the high valley area of Northwestern Argentina. The archaeological materials recovered through systematic surface sampling and test pits, were analyzed from the technological and typological criteria proposed by Aschero (1975, 1983). This allowed us to recognize evidences of procurement, manufacture, possibly use, and recycle activities. Those evidences are the result of recurrent human occupations that ended up shaping a palimpsest.
