BOCANEGRA, D  e  ROCHINOTTI, D. Estimación de la digestibilidad in vitro mediante la técnica propuesta por Theodorou et al. (1994). RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2012, vol.38, n.2, pp.150-152. ISSN 1669-2314.

The effect of addition of maize germmeal to bovine fed low quality Rhodes Grass (Chloris gayana) hay was evaluated using Theodoreau et al. (1994) in vitro gas production methodology. Four zebu bulls with a mean live weight of 350 kg were maintained in individual 16 m2 pens and supplemented with maize germmeal (0 and 0,6). From each animals 300 cubic centimeters of ruminal fluid was obtained through a nasogastric probe. Representative samples of hay alone or supplemented as to feed animals at 0,3, 0,6 and 0,9 % of germmeal to liveweight were incubated with ruminal fluid from the 4 animals. Gas production was determined at 3, 6, 9, 15, 21, 27, 39 and 49 hours after digestion begins. A completely random design with 4 treatments and 5 replications was used. No difference was found between treatments that included germmeal but they different compared to hay alone, which was lower. It is concluded that protein supplementation significantly increases in vitro digestibility of Rhodes grass hay.
