The objective of this study was to adjust the sample size for monitoring thrips population in the cultivation of Nicotiana tabacum L. var. virginica (C. Agardh) Comes "virginia tobacco". A random sampling of leaves (harvestable organs), biweekly frequency and in two tobacco production farms, located in the department of El Carmen (Jujuy, Argentina), during the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 campaigns. Based on the sampling the first year and the parameters of the Taylor equation calculated, i could determine the minimum number of leaves sampled for less than or equal to 20% errors.
