The artificial increase of wood density augments its mechanical strength and improves its hygroscopic properties. The goal of the research was to densify Gyrocarpus americanus wood and to assess the effect of the higro-thermo-mechanical treatment in the wood density, the speed of ultrasound and the dynamic modulus. Ultrasound tests were performed before and after treatment densified. It was designed an experiment of differences of means between the variables of response and the derivative, before and after treatment. The treatment was considered the variation factor. To assess the treatment of densification they were calculated the coefficient of densification, the elastic index, the index of densification and the index of quality. Their magnitudes were close to those reported in the literature. The treatment increases the densified wood density and its dynamic module. Instead the densified does not change the speed of ultrasound. If the density of the wood is increased artificially, it can increase the magnitude of dynamic modulus, which probably valorize low density species as is G. americanus.
