This paper studies two passages of Leibniz’s work on Principles of Nature and Grace Founded on Reason and the consequences of its first question: Why is there some thing rather than nothing? Theses like those of the existence of God and the perma nence of consciousness spring naturally from this first question. A demonstration for such theses cannot be entirely reached. However, some insufficient but nevertheless important foundations in favour of them are achievable and such foundations over come the legitimacy of any kinds of dogmatic atheism, so widespread today. This is the major outcome of this essay of hypothetical metaphysics.
