Although veterinary bibliography is rich in technical details about semen manipulation in bovines, the same does not happen for swine. A brief description of the most important aspects on the handling of boar semen to maximize the reproductive output is presented. Techniques and materials for semen collection as well as the tests for its correct evaluation are detailed. The main diluters, dilution rates and conservation systems are also described. These methods have demonstrated to be effective in several units of swine production in Mexico
