VIDAL, Gardenia. The popular unión católica Argentina: It up and running in Córdoba. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.1. ISSN 1669-9041.

This paper deals with the creation of the Unión Popular Católica Argentina at a national level and particularly in Córdoba. It rises as a consequence of a growing policy of "romanizacion" present in the country since the beginning of the XX Century. The numerous strikes beginning en 1917, especially "La Semana Trágica", were the key factors to decide its creation in April 1919. Its goal was to become an "umbrella" organization covering all catholic associations leading either by clerics or lays. According to the UPCA statutes, its nature would be very hierarchical. Many catholic groups were against this type of organization and denied to integrate the UPCA. In Cordoba, the Church authorities agreed with UPCA foundation since the beginning, however many regional catholic organisms and priests seemed to disagree because it was very difficult to create the UPCA al a provincial level. Finally in 1922 it was formally created, but a few months later it began to weaken until it disappeared in an unknown date.
