QUEJADA CAMACHO, Juan Carlos. Adaptation process and change: The shift from local commerce to global commerce in the city of Cali (Colombia) through of commercial houses, 1880-1900. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2019, vol.18, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.
The objective of this article is to explain the process of insertion of Cali (Colombia) to globalized trade through the operation of its commercial houses at the end of the 19th century. When studying its operation, we identify a series of adaptations and changes generated by commercial houses in the city of Cali, such as: orienting local businesses to an export model; carrying out transactions in new institutional frameworks; the expansion of international commercial networks; increase and diversify in quantity and types of imported and exported goods; boost the provision of complementary services; and activate international credit systems. The sources used are local and national press, notarial protocols and contemporary publications.
