HERBEZ, Silvina Mariel. The use of plants in foods recorded in the stories of Charles Perrault (1628-1703): a cultural, social and material vision. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.

The stories of Charles Perrault (1628-1703) are considered as a cultural historical source since they contain experiences of everyday life; including food, drink and eating practices. They reveal the customs of the historical moment to be studied. They show the incompatibility and incongruity existing between courtly and peasant society in the France of King Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. We will focus on plants and the foods derived from them: cereals, vegetables, citrus fruits and the vine. The vicissitudes to get food will be analyzed: employment in agriculture, social and economic conditions. Also, it will be seen how they are prepared and presented at the court table, marking a differentiation that is highlighted in the practices of obtaining food and preparing it..
