TOSCANO, B  e  ARECHAGA, T. Rubber coextrusion simulation by finite element method for die design in the tyre industry. An. AFA [online]. 2015, vol.26, n.3, pp.135-138. ISSN 0327-358X.

In the tyre industry one of the main processes is extrusion. By this process, different types of semielaborated materials are produced and are going to conform the raw tire (tread sidewall, etc). During extrusion process, rubber compounds behave like a viscoelastic fluid. A proper analysis of rubber compound processing requires special material models and nonlinear finite element analysis. It has been shown that modeling three dimensional flows with traditional viscoelastic models is still a great challenge that requires excessive computational resources. In this work it has been used Generalized Newtonian Model and Simplified Viscoelastic Model to simulate the flow of rubber compounds through an extrusion die to predict the coextruded profile. For this, capillary rehometry was used for material characterization. A good correlation between real and simulated profile was found.
