BONILLA, Gonzalo; DI MASI, Gilda; BATTAGLIA, Danilo  e  SOCOLOVSKY, Mariano. Medición, clasificación y evolución del dolor provocado por las lesiones nerviosas periféricas traumáticas antes y después de la cirugía de reparación nerviosa. Rev. argent. neurocir. [online]. 2009, vol.23, n.1, pp.49-54. ISSN 1850-1532.

Objective: To describe a simple scale to quantify the neurophatic pain and to apply this scale retrospectively on a series of patients to determine the effects of peripheral nerve surgery on such pain. Matherials and Method: A series of traumatized patients treated between September 2007 and September 2008 by the Hospital de Clinicas´s Team on Peripheral Nerve were analyzed. 90 days after surgery the patients were reevaluated to determine their symptoms. Results: 26 cases with severe pain were included, being 88% males with a mean age of 28. There were 23 brachial plexus traction lesions and 3 sciatic nerve injuries. The mean result of the scale before surgery was 33.8 points, while it was 7.1 afterwards. Each patient ameliorated a mean of 26.7 points, what represents a global improvement of 79% for the whole series. Conclusion: This scale is a simple and reliable method to quantify neuropathic pain in traumatic nerve injuries. Moreover, the utility of peripheral nerve surgery to treat this kind of pain was once again demonstrated.
