CASTANEDA SANCHEZ, Darío Antonio; JARAMILLO JARAMILLO, Daniel Francisco  e  COTES TORRES, José Miguel. Selección de propiedades del suelo espacialmente relacionadas con producción en el cultivo de banano. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.1, pp.85-94. ISSN 1850-2067.

This research was carried out to find both, a parsimonious and precise methodology for the selection of variables related to banana production and its spatial characterization. Fifteen chemical variables, eighteen physical variables and two attributes of the plant, quantity of functional root and the weight of the banana bunch were evaluated in 130 sites, corresponding to an equal number of plants, distributed on a 20 x 20 m-cell grid . The experiment was performed on three fields in the farm, each one with 48, 42 and 40 sample sites, respectively. Six regression methods were assessed at the field level and at the level of the entire sample. The related edaphic variables were characterized spatially. Lasso, Lar and Forward Stagewise were the most accurate methods, presenting the lowest values in the root mean square prediction difference (RMSPD) and using the lowest number of variables. The Lasso method produced a model with seven variables. The weighted average diameter of dry aggregates showed a strong negative relationship with the banana production variables (DPMS, ß= -0.96). A similar trend was obtained with aluminum, copper, and iron, but were antagonistic with calcium, indicating unbalance between ions. The ratios Ca/K y (Ca+Mg)/K were imbalanced. The model also rendered the spatial trend component of banana production, and determined the properties with greater potential for site-specific management.
